Dear Readers,

Please check this informative video related to subject matter. This is an short interview with famous virologist Dr. Gagandeep Kang.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JBu8s-3fCw&ab_channel=DhruvRathee

Please watch full video (which is of just 16-minutes) to clear all queries & doubts related COVID-19 Vaccines.

Based on the above video, few important points are as below:

Types of Vaccines:

1)      Inactivated Vaccine (eg. Covaxin)

2)      Viral Vector Vaccine (eg. Covishield, Sputnik V)

3)      mRNA Vaccine (eg. Pfizer, Moderna)

Which Vaccine should be taken?

Any vaccine which you can get But take note that:

If taking Covaxin-Take 2nd Dose after 4 Weeks

If taking Covishield-Take 2nd Dose after 8-12 Weeks

Should Vaccine be given to Children (under 18)?

Ultimately everyone will need to get vaccine But till now license has been given for above 18.

Children aged 2.5 Years & above-YES, Required

Newborns (breastfed) -NOT Required

Should people who have diabetes, asthma, high BP, low immunity take the vaccine?

Yes, everyone has to take the vaccine.

Pregnant Women and Breastfeeding Women-Discuss with your healthcare provider as the most of vaccines are still under testing phase for such women.

There is only ONE contraindication of not getting vaccinated:

If you have taken the first dose which led to a reaction (not normal side effects), then the second dose should NOT be taken.

What will happen if I take only 1 dose of the vaccine due to shortage?

Wait for the 2nd dose and get the same.

If taking Covaxin-Take 2nd Dose after 4 Weeks; If taking Covishield-Take 2nd Dose after 8-12 Weeks

However, if you get infected before the 2nd dose, then your symptoms will mostly be mild.

WHO recommends-You can wait up to 6 months in case of vaccine shortage.

If you have tested positive and you have vaccine appointment, then wait for minimum 4 weeks before getting vaccinated.

Do people who have already had the virus (infected), still need to be vaccinated?

You may not need the 2nd dose, but we do not know sure till now.

The 2nd dose may be useless but there are no negative effects either.

Further, if you got infected and vaccinated both, then this is the best protection.
